What jazz builds
Strength and flexibility
Jazz develops powerful legs, a strong core, and the flexibility to execute high kicks, leaps, and turns safely.
Performance quality
More than any other style, jazz teaches dancers to sell a movement — to project, commit, and connect with an audience.
Cross-training value
Ballet students who add jazz find their speed and articulation jumps up a level. The two styles reinforce each other.
Musical diversity
Jazz works with a wider range of music than any other style — students develop taste and versatility over time.
Team culture
Our upper-level jazz classes function as small performance teams. Students learn to lift each other's work.
Progression path
- 1
Jazz 2
Level 2
{ "Foundational jazz technique": "isolations, pirouettes, basic across-the-floor combinations. Dancers typically enter after at least a year of ballet or tap." }
- 2
Jazz 3
Level 3
Expanded vocabulary — more complex turns, jumps, and combinations. Introduction to performance-quality choreography.
What to expect
Every jazz class opens with a warm-up that covers ankle work, hip isolations, and core activation. We move to pliés, tendus, and stretches — ballet's structure applied to a jazz vocabulary. Across-the-floor combinations build power and speed. Class closes with the week's combination — a choreographed phrase that evolves over several weeks and often makes its way into the recital.
Dress code
Form-fitting top and jazz pants, leggings, or shorts. Tan or black jazz shoes (level-specific). Hair in a ponytail or bun. Full dress code details are shared at enrollment.
The Reverence approach to jazz
Jazz is where ballet technique and personal style meet. Our jazz classes hold to clean technical standards — you still see pulled-up cores and pointed feet — while giving dancers room to find their own presence.
We deliberately teach jazz with music from many eras and genres. A dancer who only ever works with one kind of music becomes one kind of performer. We're building versatile artists.

Most jazz dancers have a year or two of ballet or tap first — but we evaluate every dancer individually at a trial class. Schedule a trial and we'll find the right class.
