Technique, personal style, age-appropriate energy

Hip-Hop

Age-appropriate hip-hop at Reverence teaches authentic technique with music, choreography, and attire that honor the dancer. From Hip Hop Tumble Tots at age four to Advanced Hip Hop, students build rhythm, power, and personal style.

Ages we teach

  • Ages 3–5
  • Ages 6–10
  • Ages 11–13
  • Ages 14–18

What hip-hop builds

  • Rhythmic sensibility

Hip-hop teaches a different kind of musicality — grooves, pockets, syncopation — that makes every other style sharper.

  • Athletic power

Hip-hop develops explosive strength, grounded control, and a kind of physical confidence dancers don't get from other styles.

  • Community and creativity

Hip-hop is inherently collaborative. Our classes build freestyle and cypher culture alongside choreography.

  • Age-appropriate always

Music is screened, choreography is reviewed, and attire is modest. Every element is chosen with the dancer's age in mind.

  • Cultural education

We teach hip-hop's origins — the people, places, and ideas that built the art form — not just the moves.

What to expect

Every hip-hop class opens with a warm-up that builds heat and activates the hips, core, and shoulders. We work through the week's combination in sections, layering in complexity. Class often includes a freestyle circle where dancers can respond to the music in their own way — supported, not judged.

Dress code

Athletic wear you can move in — t-shirts, joggers, leggings, or athletic shorts. Clean indoor sneakers (no outdoor shoes on our floors). Hair tied back. Full dress code details are shared at enrollment.

Our approach to hip-hop

We take hip-hop as seriously as we take ballet. That means teaching real technique — not watered-down moves to popular music — and teaching the culture honestly, including its origins in Black American communities.

It also means keeping every element of the class age-appropriate. Music is screened. Choreography is reviewed. We do not use music that objectifies the dancer or choreography that would make a parent uncomfortable watching. That's a non-negotiable at every level.
